Hybrid Art

“hybrid art brings together digital processes and paint into a single, integrated practice. it demands a meticulous eye and a commitment to precision, moving fluidly between pixel-level refinement and the building of complex, tactile textures. / joost hulsbosch’s large scale hybrid works are entirely handcrafted, created without the use of ai. / each piece is composed with his own custom designed digital brushes and hand-painted effects, preserving the presence of the artist’s hand within a contemporary medium.”
andy wharton for the barbican centre, london, uk

The hand drawn, large format hybrid brush works of Joost Hulsbosch bring together the artisanal and the electronic. They move between human intuition and computational precision, merging the tactile language of painting with the possibilities of contemporary media. Created without the use of artificial intelligence, these works are produced in rare limited editions, etched into steel and sealed beneath museum grade acrylic glass.

This page is refreshed regularly with new work, usually once a month.

The Liminal Portrait Collection

Liminal refers to a transformative space between two states of being. It is a threshold where the old has already fallen away, and the new has not yet arrived. This is a suspended phase of becoming, often experienced after a breakup, during mourning, or in other moments of inner change that require time to recover, recalibrate, and find a new sense of direction.
